From the history of the Society
The first professional association of chemists in Croatia was founded in Zagreb in 1926. Under the name Yugoslav Chemical Society – Zagreb Section it operated until 1939, when an extraordinary assembly held on 5 November changed its name to the Croatian Chemical Society.
A detailed account of the founding was published by Prof. V. Njegovan and R. Podhorsky in Arhiv za hemiju i farmaciju Vol. I (1927) 41–47, together with a list of the first members — 109 regular and 25 associate. Remarkably, at that time there were only about 300 registered chemists in Croatia. The minutes of the assembly of 5 November 1939, at which the Society received its present name, and of the annual assembly of 28 January 1940 were published in Arhiv za hemiju i tehnologiju Vol. XIII (1939) 156–176.
